  • $35 Adult
  • $20 Youth or Senior

Not only is it seriously good value for money, it offers a huge amount of flexibility:

  • Want extra time to climb the summits of Tongariro or Ngauruhoe?
  • Do the difficult climbs at your own pace.
  • Not such a fit or fast hiker and concerned about the amount of time?
  • Want to avoid the crowds?

One way morning departures from Ketetahi (finish) to Mangatepopo (start) 7.20 am and 8.30 am.

These times may change due to demand, weather conditions and changes in daylight savings. Times will be confirmed when you call to book your seat.

All bookings need to be confirmed by phone (0800 247 800) 48 hours prior to departure so you can have the most up to date track and weather conditions and your pick up location and time will also be confirmed.

Credit card details are required to secure your booking if booking by phone. Or you can book online.

Your Safety is our Priority

As a DOC concessionaire we take our safety responsibilities seriously. We have a duty of care for you.

Cell Phone Coverage

There is cell phone coverage all over the mountains; it can be limited in places, so keep moving along the trail until you get some coverage. (No cell phone coverage is not an excuse for not being able to contact us).

Taupo and Turangi Return Customers

What If I miss my shuttle?

With consideration to other passengers who have made the scheduled departure times, our shuttles depart at the scheduled times.

The transfer price covers your return transport according to our timetable. No refunds are given if you have missed the bus.

If you are running late, injured or have turned back you need to contact us immediately. Contact us before you have missed the departure time.

Climbing Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom) and Mt Tongariro Summits

Both of these are optional extra side trips and are not part of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Climbing Mt Ngauruhoe is a difficult and dangerous challenge.

Keep in mind the following:

It is your choice to climb Ngauruhoe and it is your responsibility to make the scheduled departure times.

Consider this when you are making your decision to continue beyond the recommended times given and advise given:

  • It will take 2 ½ hours to ascend and descend
  • Start the ascent from South Crater no later than 9.00 am
  • Start the decent no later than 11.00 am
  • Falling rocks and loose unstable footing are common hazards
  • Do not attempt either summits in poor visibility
  • The route up is not a marked or formed trail
  • Only you know your fitness level
  • Missing the scheduled departure time at Ketetahi because it took longer to climb is not an excuse. If you have not made the summit of Ngauruhoe by 11.00 am, you need to turn back.

Mt Tongariro Summit is a good alternative for those who are looking for an extra challenge and are not up for the extreme demands of Mt Ngauruhoe. At 1 ½ hours return this side trip is moderately easy and well signposted.

When you are providing your details to us on the run sheet you are agreeing to our terms and conditions.

As concessionaires we have a license to operate on Department of Conservation land. This carries a level of responsibility for your safety and a duty of care for you whilst on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This we do by providing you with the most current and up to date weather, track and volcanic activity available to us and by adhering to the weather protocols as determined by the TACTAG user group. This group is made up of organisations, concessionaires and individual stakeholders. Eg Police, Department of Conservation and Land Search and Rescue. The collective knowledge and experience of this group is vast and comprehensive.

Ultimately, at the end of the day you are responsible for the decisions you make and it is your choice on how you want to use the information provided to you.

Our personal philosophy is that the individual is responsible for their own safety. Be prepared for all conditions, and you will have a great time.

We do not guarantee the weather.
